Three King Crimson members unite for exclusive Two of a Perfect Trio tour this fall

King Crimson members Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto have combined the forces of their trios, the Adrian Belew Power Trio and Stick Men, for the Two of a Perfect Trio tour. This double trio will extensively tour the United States this fall with select Canadian dates.

"It's a rare treat, both for us in the band, and for the audience, for three King Crimson members to be together onstage," says Levin. "And the supporting cast are excellent players in their own right."

The performance will feature two sets with an extended encore of music all featuring King Crimson material. The show will kick off with sets by Stick Men, featuring Mastelotto on electronic and acoustic percussion, Markus Reuter on his self-designed Touch Guitar, and Levin on Chapman Stick; and the Adrian Belew Power Trio with Belew on guitar and vocals, bassist Julie Slick, and NYC drummer Tobias Ralph.

For the extended "Crim-centric" encore, fans will be treated to the three Crimson members Belew, Levin and Mastelotto, covering some of their favorite pieces from their work in King Crimson.

"King Crimson is an elite club," says Belew. "There have only been seven members in the last 30 years. Having Tony, Pat and myself onstage, three legitimate Crimson players, will make this as close as currently possible to the actual thing."

To make this concert even more colossal, the trios will combine to close out the show.

"Then the others will come out to join us as a double trio, fairly well covering what Crimson had in the 90's lineup," says Levin. "It should be a big challenge, wild music, and great fun."

I'm very excited at the sound I hear in my head of this particular 'double trio,'" says Belew. "It's monstrous."

New King Crimson ProjeKct To Be Released

For Immediate Release Jakko Jakszyk, Robert Fripp and Mel Collins to release new King Crimson ProjeKct DGM/Inner Knot Records announce the upcoming release of A Scarcity of Miracles, a new release in the King Crimson ProjeKct series. The ProjeKct features Robert Fripp, Jakko Jakszyk and Mel Collins with a rhythm section of Tony Levin and Gavin Harrison. A Scarcity of Miracles will be released on May 30, 2011. When Fripp (King Crimson founder and guitarist) and Jakszyk (Level 42) got together in February 2009 neither expected that their initial sessions of guitar-only improvisations would result in a full-blown album, or that it would ultimately be deemed to be a King Crimson ProjeKct. As the material from those first sessions developed, it was obviously becoming much wider in scope and scale. The arrival of sax player and former King Crimson member, Collins, added further colour and texture to the emerging songs. The line-up was completed with the addition of bassist Levin and Porcupine Tree's drummer, Harrison (both members of the 2008 incarnation of King Crimson), adding their parts to the material in their respective studios. What had begun as an exchange of ideas grew into an album of heartfelt songs, an album that is immediately accessible on first hearing but reveals fresh detail and depth with each subsequent play, as one might expect from musicians of this calibre. A Scarcity of Miracles (A King Crimson ProjeKct) features artwork by PJ Crook and will be released simultaneously as a CD/DVD-A package, a 200gm limited edition vinyl album with a gatefold sleeve and a standard CD. The CD/DVD-A pack features the album mixed in 5.1 surround sound, the album in high definition 24/96 stereo, an album's worth of alternate mixes, improvisations from the original sessions and the video for the title track, along with the CD album in a slipcase. Many fans have read about the evolution of this King Crimson ProjeKct through Fripp's widely read online diary at www.dgmlive.com - where he has updated progress on the recording, mixing and mastering of the album at regular intervals. "JFC [Jaksyk, Fripp, Collin] is a superb album. I have not heard stereo quite like this since the early 1970s, and much of that was not of this quality, " writes Fripp in his December 15th entry to his online diary. "JFC is one of my favouritist albums, of those where I am a determining element. It has the Crimson gene, but is not quite KC [King Crimson]."

Our intended work this week is to mix / re-mix Poseidon in 5.1 & stereo, and re-mix Islands & Larks’ in stereo; both of the latter have already been mixed in 5.1. Poseidon has the disadvantage that we have not been able to find the original pre-bounce tracks. So, we can’t access the original individual mellotron parts. The main mellotron parts on Poseidon – the song is mixed together with acoustic guitar on a stereo pair; drums & bass are also on a stereo pair. Devil’s Triangle is missing lots of its constituent parts. Mellodrama explores the five-decades-long rise and fall of the Chamberlin and its better-known successor the Mellotron—the first musical keyboards to play the prerecorded sounds of other instruments. Essentially the first sampler, its haunting sound has changed the production and texture of popular music, from the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” and the Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin,” to Radiohead’s OK Computer and Kanye West’s “Gold Digger.”

Featuring Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues, Ian McDonald of King Crimson, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, famed L.A. producer Jon Brion, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, singer-songwriter Michael Penn, author Brian Kehew, (Recording the Beatles), as well as members of Opeth, Bigelf, Maroon 5, and former employees of the Mellotron and Chamberlin companies. While the musicians tell their tales, the engineers and experts deliver the gear porn by taking you inside the captivating contraption.

Mellodrama screened at over a dozen festivals throughout the world in 2009, including the CMJ Film Festival in New York, Buenos Aires Film Festival, Documenta Madrid, Portobello Film Festival in London, Atlantic Film Festival in Canada, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, Indie Memphis, Tucson Film and Music Festival, and was specially programmed by Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))) at the Lausanne Underground Film Festival in Switzerland.
