DREAM THEATER Singer To Release New Solo Album In September

DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie's new solo album, "Static Impulse", will be released on September 28 via InsideOut Music. The CD marks LaBrie's first solo effort in over five years and is sure to please his legion of diehard fans, as well as win over many new devotees in the process.

Mixed and mastered by Jens Borgen (OPETH, KATATONIA), "Static Impulse" features LaBrie's longtime songwriting partner and keyboardist Matt Guillory; Peter Wildoer from Swedish thrashers DARKANE on drums and screaming vocals; Marco Sfogli on guitar; and Ray Riendeau (HALFORD) on bass.

Commented LaBrie: "The release of 'Static Impulse' is one that the whole band is psyched about.

"This is modern metal and as heavy and relevant as any other band out there going in a similar musical direction. There are riffs that will blow your head off and melodies both musically and vocally that are hypnotic.

"Get in the driver's seat and let the ears bleed.

"Enjoy and see you out there with a tour to follow up and support this release."

Added Guillory: "One year and two months in the making and we're finally done.

"I'm really pleased with the way this record came out. James sounds fantastic, as well as the rest of the guys. Without a doubt, it's our heaviest record thus far yet at the same time, it's also our most melodic. I can't wait for everyone to hear it."

In addition to DREAM THEATER's numerous studio and live releases, LaBrie has also appeared on recordings by FATES WARNING, REDEMPTION, FRAMESHIFT and AYREON, as well as tribute albums to RUSH, EMERSON LAKE & PALMER and QUEEN.

LaBrie's last solo album, "Elements of Persuasion", was released in 2005 InsideOut Music. The CD featured a special guest appearance by fellow Canadian Kim Mitchell (MAX WEBSTER). Engineering chores were handled by James' old WINTER ROSE bandmate Richard Chycki who has done work for the likes of AEROSMITH, RUSH, and the JEFF HEALEY BAND.

The swedish innovative and nerver resting band PAIN OF SALVATION are now announcing the first tour dates of the successfully released album “Road Salt One” which scored overwhelming international press including cover stories like in Fuzz Mag (Sweden), Norway Rock Mag, etc.

The band comments: “Although time hardly permits, we have decided to take "Road Salt One"
where it truly belongs; out on the road. The first stretch of this dusty and grainy road is taking shape right now, and will mainly lead us through an October Europe. As usual, with Pain of Salvation it is all about redefining and reinventing, and our shows and tours have lived lives of their own and shapeshifted just as our albums. This tour will be no exception in that respect. So whatever you do, don’t let it be the one your friend went to see and never stops talking about.”

The all star Prog outfit featuring members of Dream Theater, Marillion, The Flower Kings and former Spock’s Beard frontman, Neal Morse, will headline the festival’s Prog Stage on Saturday, July 24th.

Classic Rock Prog magazine UK states “The angry Led Zeppy riffing of 'Linoleum' and the repetitive and rousing rabble of 'Curiosity' add a dimension that was lacking until this point (...). We can surely be satisfied with a record that simply sounds wonderfully complete and content in itself” (three page feature and highlighted box review)

SHADOW GALLERY Announces European Tour

American progressive metallers SHADOW GALLERY will embark on a European tour in October 2010, with support from modern rock band MAPLERUN. The trek will launch with SHADOW GALLERY's headlining performance on October 2 at the ProgPower Europe festival in Baarlo, Netherlands.

Commented guitarist Gary Wehrkamp: "Our fans in Europe have been eagerly waiting for the day that SHADOW GALLERY would take the stage and we are happy to finally be able to make this journey together."

Confirmed tour dates are as follows:

Oct. 02 - ProgPower Europe - Baarlo, Netherlands
Oct. 06 - Alcatraz – Milan, Italy
Oct. 08 - 8ball - Thessaloniki, Greece
Oct. 09 - Stage Club - Larissa, Greece
Oct. 10 - Kyttaro - Athens, Greece
Oct. 17 - Biebop - Vosselaar, Belgium

SHADOW GALLERY's "Gold Dust" video can be viewed below. The clip includes both live and location footage and features a cameo by Will Smith Sr., father of movie actor Will Smith. The video, which was filmed by Rick Berk and directed by SHADOW GALLERY bassist Carl Cadden-James, marked an ambitious step into exciting uncharted waters for the band.

"We are very excited about having done this and are genuinely pleased with the results. We were surrounded by extremely talented people during production and had a blast doing it," states Cadden-James. "The song 'Gold Dust' was the perfect vehicle for our first video and I think it's nice to be able to introduce Brian [Ashland] as a vocalist visually beyond his vocal performance on the CD."

The lyrical story is played out by model Heather Anthony and displays a very human side of the band that explores the emotional complexities of both desire and heartache and should resonate with almost anyone who has ever loved.

SHADOW GALLERY has transitioned very comfortably from just an aural experience to the visual artistic expression that their music is so well suited.

"Gold Dust" comes off SHADOW GALLERY's sixth studio effort, "Digital Ghosts", which was released on October 26, 2009 in Europe and November 3, 2009 in North America via InsideOut Music.

After the tragic passing of lead singer Mike Baker in October 2008, SHADOW GALLERY's new CD introduces new vocalist Brian Ashland and not only sees the entire band once again sharing additional vocal duties but also features guest vocal appearances by Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) and Clay Barton (SUSPYRE) to complement the release. With "Digital Ghosts", SHADOW GALLERY's members Brendt Allman, Carl Cadden-James, Gary Wehrkamp, Ashland and returning drummer Joe Nevolo (who appears on two songs of the record) have focused their powerful energies on creating a seamless blend of progressive, metal, and symphonic rock as a transcendent work of musical art that advances the boundaries of these genres into new directions.

SHADOW GALLERY lineup:

* Brendt Allman - Electric & Acoustic guitars, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals
* Carl Cadden-James - Bass Guitar and Vocals
* Gary Wehrkamp - Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals and Drums

Steve Morse To Release New Album

7/17/2010 - Ocala, Florida—Acclaimed guitarist/composer Steve Morse has teamed up with breakout singer/songwriter Sarah Spencer to release Angelfire, an album of haunting, harmony-laden acoustic songs.

Steve Morse is often described as a "musician’s musician," acclaimed amongst artists but eschewing the public limelight. The six-time Grammy nominee is renowned as much for his writing as his guitar playing, garnering such accolades from peers as being voted “Best Overall Guitarist” for five consecutive years (Guitar Player magazine). Morse adeptly fuses a wide range of musical styles, including jazz fusion, bluegrass, southern rock, baroque classical and metal. Whether playing with the Dixie Dregs, the Steve Morse Band, previously with Kansas or currently (going on 15 years) with Deep Purple, Steve continues to leave his mark as a distinctive songwriter and guitarist.

Sarah Spencer, 22, grew up in a musical family. She began piano lessons at age six, and was recording original material at ten. At 14, she was cast in a VH1 reality show (ultimately cancelled) that followed the lives of teenage prodigies. She wrote in the operatic pop genre, inspired by orchestral movie soundtracks. Spencer began working with established producers during her teens, recording live-orchestral songs with producers Paul Weston and Al Steele.

Sarah met Steve when she was 16, and they began collaborating on what was to become Angelfire. “When I first heard Sarah sing, I was amazed…I’d never heard a voice so pure,” says Morse. “My first thought was to write an album with her so I could hear and share it with other people.” Sarah responds, “Steve has been so generous throughout our collaboration. Everyone knows about his incredible talent, but only a lucky few know about his big heart. I feel so blessed to be able to work with this renaissance man!”

Their collaboration represents several firsts for them both. Even after 44 albums, Steve has never written a vocal album. Sarah is stepping out front as a performer and songwriter. And despite their cumulative experience spanning multiple genres of music, neither has written anything that sounds like Angelfire.

At first imagining Sarah McLachlan meets John McLaughlin, or the collaborative approach of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, Angelfire soars beyond compare into the hearts of audiences eager for fresh, unique new music.
