Sound of Contact Postpones Tour Dates

from the Sound of Contact Website: http://www.soundofcontact.com/tour-dates/
Dear friends and fans of Sound of Contact!
Due to delays and complications from the US embassy in the UK, Simon Collins and key SOC personnel were unable to obtain work visas in time to perform with Sound of Contact in the upcoming YEStival in Camden, New Jersey this Saturday. We also deeply regret to inform everyone that as of today, we must postpone our North American tour this August / September until Spring next year.
Logistical issues derived from VISA complications and low ticket sales in a few locations have impacted on our ability to effectively honor all dates at this time.
We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and potential inconvenience that this may cause.
Please know that we have every intention of re-grouping and re-scheduling as many of the dates as possible. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

MASTODON Guitarist Talks Next Album In New Video Interview

Artisan News conducted an interview with guitarist Bill Kelliher of Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON during this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked about the progress of the songwriting sessions for MASTODON's follow-up to 2011's "The Hunter", Kelliher said: "We haven't really come to the lyrical concepts yet. That's
usually the last thing that comes. We're usually focused on the music
and getting all the parts and everything sounding 'balls to the wall,'
you know what I mean?! That's the most important thing. And then once
we've got all that settled and recorded, we're always scrambling for
lyrics and ideas and stuff. We're getting a little bit better at it, and I think Brann's [Dailor, drums] got a lot of ideas for
vocal melodies and stuff like that. I'll play the riff and he'll kind of sing along, and I'm, like, 'OK, that sounds really proggy, but really
awesome.' I'm really, really excited about it. But as far as what it's
gonna be dealing with, it's a little too early to tell; it's pretty
fresh stuff right now. I mean, we've got some demos, but they're really, really rough."

Kelliher also spoke about possible lyrical themes that might be covered on MASTODON's next album. He said: "Death always makes for really good story telling. It's kind of the theme that we have a lot in our music. We've had a lot of friends pass away since the last record. I'm not really sure yet. I
think we're kind of focusing more about living on this earth and what
would happen if this was your last year to live. I think that's sort of
maybe a little bit of what we might be kind of touching on."

He added: "Art reflects life — how you're feeling and your mood. I played a riff for Brann and he was, like, 'That sounds kind of happy. Are we happy now?' I
don't know… I am; I'm a pretty happy guy. So that's kind of how we work; it's pretty simple. But we'll have to see. I really like the way 'The Hunter' went; that was not a total change in direction, but we just kind of
proved to ourselves that we can just write stuff that we think sounds
cool, and it doesn't have to all flow together, it doesn't have to all
sound the same. It can be totally different without a concept. So I
think that really opened up my mind at least to, like, 'What if I write
something like this? Is that gonna be cool?' And we're all on the same
page right now with all the songs — the 30 or so songs we've gathered so far. So we'll just have to see how it goes."

A MASTODON song from the band's 2004 album "Leviathan" is featured in the new animated film "Monsters University". The track "Island" is utilized in a scene in the movie, but does not appear on the official soundtrack. The filmmakers explained how and why "Island" and MASTODON were chosen to factor into the film, saying, "There is a great moment in 'Monsters University' when we thought it would be funny if the tunes were some of the most intense heavy metal imaginable. MASTODON was the obvious choice. They show off an unexpected monstrous side for one of our great new characters."

"Monsters University" is the prequel to 2001's "Monsters, Inc." Billy Crystal and John Goodman reprise their roles in the prequel as the wise-cracking Mike Wazowski and lovable Sulley.

MASTODON's latest album, "The Hunter", came out in September 2011 through Reprise Records.

DAVID DRAIMAN Demands Apology From ROGER WATERS For 'Blatant' Anti-Semitic Symbolism

DISTURBED and DEVICE frontman David Draiman has asked his 120,000 Twitter followers to condemn British rock musician and anti-Israel activist Roger Waters for allegedly using the Jewish Star of David as one of the symbols on the giant inflatable pig that hovers over "The Wall" concerts.

According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the pig-shaped balloon emblazoned with the Star of David, as well as dictatorial symbols, dropped from the ceiling while Waters performed on last week in Belgium.

The
69-year-old rocker has been using the inflatable pig for years to
display political messages, serving primarily as a symbol of greed,
fascism and oppression.

In a message on Twitlonger.com, a related Twitter site that allows one to send tweets that require more than 140 characters, Draiman — who has extensive family in Israel, including his brother, Jerusalem-based folk rock and ambient musician Ben Draiman, as well as his grandmother — wrote: "My brothers and sisters, my blood,

"Regarding Roger Waters' usage of a flying pig with the Star of David on it during his performances;

"I have personally been a fan of Mr. Waters' work for many years. I think that PINK FLOYD are one of the most groundbreaking and visionary acts of all time. Mr. Waters' position on the Palestinian/Israeli crisis is well known, and has been well publicized.
"Whether
or not you agree with the policies of the Israeli government (and there
are times where I myself, a half Israeli Jew, with a large number of
relatives still living in Israel, including my brother and grandmother;
do not agree with some of their policies), nothing excuses the usage of
the Star of David (the symbol of the Jewish people as a whole, not
Israel or its government) emblazoned on a flying pig/zeppelin during his
performances for 'The Wall'. It is uncalled for, abhorrent, and blatantly Anti-Semitic.

"If the pig is in fact a symbol of greed and tyranny as described in the song from 'The Wall' called 'In the Flesh', then affixing the symbol of the Jewish people to it, is an attempt at
reinforcing an age old anti-Semitic stereotype that is unwarranted and
beyond offensive. All he is doing through such symbolism is encouraging
hatred and teaching his fans that Jews are greedy tyrannical people,
which could not be further from the actual truth. If he wanted to make a political statement against the policies of the Israeli government
(which I would not be in agreement with either, but would be political
and not religious/racial, and therefore understandable), he should have
had an image of the Israeli flag on it, the symbol of the government,
and not the lone star of David, the symbol of the Jewish people as a
whole.

"Hitler himself used the star of David as a badge
of identifying Jews with the word 'Juden' under it, marking ALL Jews as
they were mercilessly driven into the cattle cars that lead to the death camps in his maniacal attempt at genocide.

"Once again, this is not an issue of freedom of speech, or expression, as Mr. Waters is well within his rights to say and display anything he chooses, even
if it does incite hatred, but it does NOT mean that we as responsible
individuals against hatred and anti-Semitic imagery, have to sit back
and just take it. Freedom of speech and expression is a two way street,
and sometimes you will reap what you sow.

"I therefore urge all
of my followers, friends, and colleagues, and certainly the Jewish
people within the entertainment community to take issue with this
anti-Semitic symbolism, and to demand that the Star of David be stricken
from the flying pig, and that a formal apology/explanation be given
from Mr. Waters himself."
