New Project Featuring Pat Mastelotto, David Kollar, and Paolo Raineri

KoMaRa:
Boundary-Breaking, Cinematic Industrial Ethno-Rock From
King Crimson’s Pat Mastelotto and Renowned Avant-Experimentalists David Kollar and Paolo Raineri

KoMaRa’s self-titled debut album is based on a dark, deviant and explicit detective story. It reflects the mysterious circumstances of an abduction and the ultimate demise of the abductee. It’s a NSFW, Rated-R release designed for the open-minded and brave. Unnerving, haunting artwork by Tool’s Adam Jones further underlines the album’s provocative vibe.

The recording is predominantly instrumental, but includes occasional vocals by Raineri, Leashya and Bill Munyon. Equally menacing, incendiary and vulnerable, they serve as interludes to either break or create moods and tension throughout. The album also has moments of light and hope, told through short trumpet vignettes by Raineri.

KoMaRa came together through social media, with Kollar reaching out to Mastelotto on Facebook about potential gigs and recordings. Everyone was mutually intrigued and met up in Slovakia, where Kollar is based, in November 2014. The trio played gigs across myriad Slavic countries to enthusiastic, open-minded audiences. The group then went on to record in Prague, capturing three long improvisations that formed the basis of the pieces on KoMaRa’s debut album. Acclaimed engineers Bill Munyon and Adrian Benevides also contributed to faithfully reflecting the release’s mercurial approach.

“For me, KoMaRa is the epitome of my belief that great records are like movies,” said Mastelotto. “The best musicians don’t need scripts because they understand the movie is always evolving. That’s the beauty of music, too. It inspires its own script and cinematography in every listener’s head.”

Pat Mastelotto is one of the world’s most celebrated drummers. He has been a member of every King Crimson lineup from 1994 to the present. In addition, he’s one third of Stick Men, a trio with Tony Levin and Markus Reuter. Mastelotto has also collaborated with Steven Wilson, Terry Bozzio, Trey Gunn, Allan Holdsworth, John Paul Jones, and Kimmo Pohjonen.

Slovakian guitarist and composer David Kollar has released nine expansive albums, scored 18 films and worked on many multimedia projects. His last recording, 2013’s The Son, an atmospheric, emotionally-charged effort, received accolades from Guitar Moderne, France’s A Decovrir Absolument, and the Czech and Slovak Radio Head awards. He’s also worked with Eivind Aarset, Gergo Borlai, Bjorn Charles Dreyer and Lenka Dusilová.
Trumpeter Paolo Raineri takes his instrument and processes it in real-time to create ethereal, otherworldly sounds. The Italian musician combines Scandinavian nu-jazz influences with psychedelic rock, experimental and free improvisation in his award-winning Junkfood 4tet. In addition, he’s performed with Stefano Battaglia, Berserk!, The Blessed Beat, Baustelle, Calibro 35, Nada, and Enrico Gabrielli.

Tim Bowness launches 'The Great Electric Teenage Dream'

Tim Bowness recently announced the release of his third solo album, 'Stupid Things That Mean The World', for release on the 17th July 2015. A year on from the acclaimed Abandoned Dancehall Dreams, Bowness returns with this powerful and eclectic new record, and can now reveal the first track to be taken from it, in the form of a video. 'The Great Electric Teenage Dream' is the opening track from the album.
You can watch the video here exclusively on PopMatters.

Tim had this to say about the track:
"This is the opening track from Stupid Things That Mean The World, though it was one of the last pieces to be completed for the album.  It's partly rooted in some powerful drum patterns Pat Mastelotto recorded in 2013, but most of the song came together in one late night live session at NAM Studios in February this year. Subsequently, Colin Edwin, Andrew Booker and Bruce Soord made some additions that helped build the tension in the song further.  Stephen Bennett - who I co-wrote the song with - created the video, which has a nice 'retro-future' theme running through it that complements some of the ideas in the lyric."

Produced by Bowness and mixed by The Pineapple Thief's Bruce Soord (who also adds some choice guitar parts), 'Stupid Things That Mean The World' features a core of Bowness along with members of the No-Man live band (Stephen Bennett, Michael Bearpark, Andrew Booker) and Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), augmented by contributions from Peter Hammill, Phil Manzanera, Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Anna Phoebe, David Rhodes (Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Scott Walker), and Rhys Marsh. As on Abandoned Dancehall Dreams, Classical composer Andrew Keeling, best known for his work with The Hilliard Ensemble, Evelyn Glennie and Robert Fripp, provides striking string arrangements. The album was mastered by The Pineapple Thief's Steve Kitch.

The beautiful artwork for the album was once again done by I Monster's Jarrod Gosling, and you can see that below. The album will be available as Double CD Media book featuring a companion disc of alternate mixes and demos (including an unreleased No-Man demo from 1994), as well as a gatefold vinyl LP with CD & digital download.
The album is available to pre-order through Burning Shed, where people who purchase the album will receive a 5.1 flac download of the audio as well as a signed postcard: https://www.burningshed.com/store/noman/

Abandoned Dancehall Dreams was released last year to critical acclaim, with Classic Rock calling it a 'cinematic, contemporary classic' and Prog Magazine naming it 'arch art-progger Bowness's masterpiece.' The album also reached the top 20 of the UK rock album charts upon release, and was subsequently included in Prog Magazine's critics' choice top 20 of 2014.

Tim Bowness is primarily known as vocalist/co-writer with the band No-Man, a long-running collaboration with Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). In addition to releasing six studio albums and a documentary DVD with No-Man, Tim has worked with popular Italian artist Alice, Robert Fripp, Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine), OSI and Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera (amongst many others), and is a member of the bands Henry Fool and Memories Of Machines.

You can find some of the media reactions to the album below:

"Sky Blue, AND the next chapter in the Ziltoid saga, Dark Matters.  The connective tissue?  Both are undeniably the work of Devin Townsend at the 2014 temporal checkpoint of his evolution." - DECIBEL Magazine

"His vocal range and skills as a producer are matched only by his twisted sense of humour, which has birthed two records featuring a power-mad, coffee-obsessed alien overlord called Ziltoid the Omniscient."  - EXCLAIM! Magazine

"DEVIN TOWNSEND IS ONE OF THE MOST prolific musicians around today.  The man is an unstoppable lunatic.  He transcends the meaning of keeping busy"
- OUTBURN Magazine

"A true sci-fi masterpiece, like a musical Orson Welles radio show"
- METAL UNDERGROUND.com

"You can call Devin Townsend's music progressive, experimental, symphonic or a half dozen other labels and it is a bit of all of those. But what it truly is is outrageous."
