"The album has bits and pieces of what you'd expect from each of us,” says Portnoy. “The sum of all its parts led to brand new, unchartered territory for everyone involved."
Flying Colors began with a simple idea: virtuoso musicians and a pop singer joining together to make new-fashioned music the old fashioned way.  Refreshing, classic, old and new, the songs are saturated with the many styles, tones and hues of the players who in becoming a band have delivered a unique fusion of vintage craftsmanship and contemporary music.

"It was quite an experience making the album,” recalls Dave LaRue. “It's been an inspiring challenge melding folk, prog, pop and metal into one big recording."

Mike Portnoy was the co-founding member and drummer for the world’s biggest prog metal band Dream Theater.  Neal Morse is the co-founding member of the prog rock bands Spock’s Beard and Transatlantic.  David LaRue is the bassist for the Dixie Dregs and has worked with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.  Steve Morse is the lead guitarist for Deep Purple.  Casey McPherson is the lead singer for Alpha Rev, who has experienced success on US radio with numerous hit singles including “New Morning”.

UK Progressive Rock Ensemble Galahad Releases Highly Anticipated New CD 'Battle Scars'

UK Progressive Rock Ensemble Galahad Releases Highly Anticipated New CD 'Battle Scars'

5/20/2012 - London, UK – 'Battle Scars' is the new studio album from established English progressive rock band Galahad just released on Avalon Records. The CD was recorded, engineered and mixed by Karl Groom (Threshold) at Thin Ice studios. 'Battle Scars', Galahad's seventh studio album, shows the band evolving from their well received and critically acclaimed 2007 album 'Empires Never Last'. 'Battle Scars' is the first of two new albums from Galahad scheduled for release this year.

'Battle Scars' contains a myriad of styles from rock and prog through to techno, ambient and dance sounds via classical arrangements. Throughout, the production is modern and pristine, incorporating powerful, direct guitar riffs, lush keyboard arrangements and occasional quieter passages of subtle beauty, melding together to create an often massively epic sound. “I guess the whole gamut are in there,” explains vocalist and founding member Stuart Nicholson about the album's variety of themes, “frustration, anger, disbelief, reflection, the acceptance of reality, fighting spirit against the odds, hope for the future, negativity, positivity and more besides.”

'Battle Scars' is Galahad music for the 21st Century: very much looking forward but also showing occasional and affectionate nods to the analogue past.

In recognition of the band's 25 year plus history, a new recording of their classic song “Sleepers” is included as a bonus track on the CD and download version. “I think the whole package works really well,” says Stuart, “the monochrome graphics and images with the odd splash of red here and various pieces of pertinent imagery match the atmosphere of the music perfectly.”

As always, the proof of the pudding is in the listening, as the band suggests: “Go on, give it a whirl, leave your preconceptions at the door and play it loud! We know it's our best album yet, and hope you agree.”

Galahad's 'Battle Scars' is available on CD, digital download and limited edition high quality 180gm vinyl LP in a gatefold sleeve.

In closing Stuart Nicholson had this to impart to Galahad's devoted fans of many years: “I hope you like what we have come up with, and if you know us well you'll realize that we try and make each album different from the previous one, but still include certain Galahad traits. Plus, I'd like to thank all those who have shown patience and stuck with us – it is greatly appreciated by the band.”

Galahad:
Stuart Nicholson – vocals
Roy Keyworth – guitars
Spenser Luckman – drums
Neil Pepper – bass, guitar & keyboards
Dean Baker – keyboards

SHADOW CIRCUS signs with 10T Records for New Concept Album

Charleston, SC – May 29, 2012  (10T Records) - 10T Records is thrilled to announce the signing of SHADOW CIRCUS for the release of their upcoming full length concept CD, entitled “On a Dark and Stormy Night,” in late Summer 2012.  “On a Dark and Stormy Night” is based on the Newberry Award-winning science fiction fantasy classic, “A Wrinkle in Time,” by Madeleine L’Engle, and is being released with the full cooperation of the L’Engle estate as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the original publication of the book. “On a Dark and Stormy Night” is a progressive rock tour-de-force that finds the band's creative scope widening, including elements of cinematic orchestral arrangements, classic Progressive Rock, Celtic music, and Metal.

Hailing from the New York City area, Shadow Circus began as an experiment by composer/guitarist John Fontana to pursue his passion for Progressive Rock. John was joined by longtime friend and vocalist, David Bobick, whose background in musical theater was a perfect match for John's vision of a band that was as entertaining to watch on stage, as it was to listen to. Christening themselves with a name inspired by a fictional carnival from Ray Bradbury's “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” Shadow Circus was born.

2006 saw the release of their debut CD, “Welcome to the Freakroom,” and earned the band a following and reputation as a theatrical and entertaining group with solid songwriting and impressive musicianship. But it was 2009's Whispers and Screams that solidified Shadow Circus as a band to be watched, earning them their first appearance in 2010's ProgDay festival, and numerous live appearances at B.B. King's in New York City, the legendary Orion Studios in Baltimore, and The Magic Room in Boston. Continuing with their penchant for literary influences, this second release featured a song that recalls a famous episode of The Twilight Zone, and an epic suite lyrically inspired by Stephen King's dark fantasy masterpiece, “The Stand.”

The music of the 2012 edition of Shadow Circus continues to draw on strongly emotional and literary themes in the context of a highly entertaining ensemble, recalling some of the flavors which are staples to the Progressive Rock sound, while challenging typical expectations of this genre with elements that are at once symphonic, cinematic, soulful, melodic, and, most importantly, rocking. Energized by a lineup featuring the return of original bassist/cellist Matt Masek, drummer Jason Brower, and David Silver on keyboards, the band is currently in the studio recording “On a Dark and Stormy Night.”

“Shadow Circus is extremely excited to begin what we think will be a long and fruitful partnership with 10T Records, a label that we admire for its integrity, and value of quality over quantity,” says John. “We are honored to join 10T's roster of outstanding artists, whose music we have enjoyed and been inspired by.”

“John and I have been friends for a few years and it feels like it was destined that we would eventually work together,” says 10T Records president, Steve Carroll. “I was blown away by “Whispers and Screams,” but after seeing their amazing performance at ProgDay in 2010, I knew that the time was right for a partnership.  We couldn’t possibly be any happier to be bringing “On a Dark and Stormy Night” to the world in just a few months.”

In the meantime, Shadow Circus’ second release, “Whispers and Screams,” is now available for purchase through the 10T Records online store for immediate shipping worldwide.

Leaving the Royal College of Music Rick has worked with some of the biggest names in rock and pop music playing on some of the biggest hits by artists as diverse as Cat Stevens, Marc Bolan and David Bowie. Likewise he has played with one of the biggest rock bands in the world; As a member of YES Rick played some of the biggest arenas in the world and released massively successful albums including 'Fragile', 'Close To the Edge' and the live album 'Yessongs'. NEVERMORE Guitarists Featured On LEANDER RISING Debut

LEANDER RISING, the Budapest, Hungary-based band featuring NEVERMORE guitarist Attila Vörös, will release its self-titled debut album in the U.S. on July 17. The
14-song CD heads straight for the adrenal gland focusing on melody
coupled with passionate fury, combining blends of brutal riffs and
punishing breakdowns with huge anthemic and driving melodies for an
original sound that is all their own. Recorded in Hungary and mixed and
mastered in Sweden by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, GOD FORBID, KATATONIA, SOILWORK, KREATOR), with artwork by Robert Borbas (METALLICA, SUICIDE SILENCE, BRING ME THE HORIZON) and a guest appearance by Jeff Loomis (ex-NEVERMORE) on the track "Six Feet Under".

LEANDER RISING was originally intended as a solo project for its namesake Leander Köteles, but evolved into a full-fledged band when his first video for the song "Bound To Belong" created an Internet buzz throughout Hungary and caught the attention of Attila Vörös, a young and well-known guitarist who has also toured worldwide with Seattle metal band NEVERMORE. Attila reached out to Leander via e-mail and their collaboration began. In the beginning, Attila only came on to do some guest solos but as time went on they found their true sound was together.

While Attila was touring in the U.S. with NEVERMORE, Leander decided to cover and put his spin on LADY GAGA's "Bad Romance", which became the most viewed and successful video in the project's
history at that time. Incorporating Hungarian Dances from Brahms, his
version will be the special bonus track on the upcoming U.S. release.

LEANDER RISING is:

Leander Köteles - Singer, Songwriter, Lyricist, Keyboardist, Bassist
Attila Vörös - Guitarist, Songwriter
Jozzy - Guitarist, Co-Songwriter
Bela Budai - Drummer

DEEP PURPLE: 'California Jam' Book Announced -

According to Darker Than Blue, a new documentary book, "Deep Purple At The California Jam", will be published in the fall via Rufus Stone Limited Editions. Collecting together hundreds of black-and-white and color images from a number of photographers who had all area access to DEEP PURPLE's 1974 concert at the California Jam festival (and rehearsals), the large 12"-by-12"-format presentation
allows these images to shine. Most of the photographs have never been
seen before and are being fully restored and color corrected. Backing
the images up is a detailed and lengthy essay on the concert and the
build-up to the performance, from the first meetings by the promoters
through to the completion of the PA towers. The text is supported by an
impressive collection of rare memorabilia including internal documents,
setlists, passes, posters, tickets and even the repair bills for the TV
camera.

In total, this is the most comprehensive publication ever devoted to a single DEEP PURPLE performance and is certain to excite fans of the band around the world.

Mindful
of the current economic climate, as well as the deluxe 300 page limited
edition, a more affordable version will also be made available. Full
details of these will be announced shortly.

On April 6, 1974, DEEP PURPLE appeared on stage at the California Jam festival at the Ontario Speedway in California.Taking top billing at the all-day event, and with great weather, DEEP PURPLE and the other bands drew a crowd of around 165,000 people. It became
the largest single-day paid attendance in U.S. rock concert history.

DEEP PURPLE's standing at that time was enormous thanks to the massive success of "Machine Head" and "Smoke On The Water" and the festival came towards the very the end of a lengthy American tour with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes (joining founder members Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice). This show was special though, to be televised across the country through the ABC TV network, and the band pulled out all the stops, cancelling all other shows on the west coast to stoke demand.

Today their California Jam performance is rightly regarded as a classic by this lineup, but at the time pre-performance arguments almost saw them thrown off the bill
before they'd even got on-stage. After Ritchie Blackmore's pyrotechnics (when he ignited trays of gasoline and almost blew himself, drummer Ian Paice and various roadies off stage) there were worries that the group would
never work in America again. The show also saw the guitarist's legendary attack on an intrusive television camera with a Stratocaster. All
thoughts of an encore went out of the window as roadies bundled
musicians into waiting limos to get them over the state border before
state police could be called in.

Procol Harum Singer Gary Brooker in Serious Condition After Fall

British rockers Procol Harum have been forced to cancel the remainder of their dates in South Africa after frontman Gary Brooker injured himself. The fall came on Brooker’s 67th birthday (May 29). The band was part of the British Invasion Tour of South Africa along with the Moody Blues and 10cc.
Details on how or why Brooker fell are scarce, with a promoter only telling Times Live that the singer is healing. “Our thoughts are with Gary and the band during this difficult time,” Attie Van Wyk of Big Concerts said. “We are confident that he is receiving the very best medical attention and we
wish him a speedy recovery.”
According to the fan website Beyond the Pale, the ‘Whiter Shade of Pale’ hitmakers were scheduled to play in Cape Town on May 30 and Johannesburg on June 1. They’ll open a string of American dates on July 13 in Atlantic City, N.J. It’s not clear if  Brooker’s injury will affect other shows. Brooker founded Procol Harum pin 1966, and remained the band leader until they broke up in 1977. ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ was by far their
biggest hit, reaching No. 5 in America and No. 1 in the U.K., but they also scored a lesser hit with ‘Conquistador’ in 1972. In 1991 the group reformed, and they have toured and recorded off and on since.

KING'S X To Support KANSAS

Legendary rockers KING'S X will return to the North American tour circuit this fall as direct support to KANSAS.

In regards to this upcoming trek, KING'S X bassist/vocalist Doug Pinnick comments: "I've been a huge KANSAS fan since the beginning. I remember sitting on the floor with my friends listening to the just released record 'Song For America'... Fast forward to years later, KING'S X is going on tour with them!! It is an honor to be doing shows with them. This is gonna rock!!"

These dates will mark KING'S X's first performances since Gaskill's remarkable recovery from a major heart attack earlier this year.

"Not too long ago I was thinking I might not ever get back on a stage, now I'm ready and with the OK from all my doctors," says Gaskill. "What better way to get back than to tour with the legendary KANSAS. Let's rock..."

KANSAS original member and guitar virtuoso Richard Williams adds, "We are really looking forward to the upcoming shows with KING'S X. They're a great band and a force to be reckoned with. It's a tour like
this that allows us to dig a little bit deeper into our catalogue and
play a few songs that KANSAS fans haven't heard for a while. It's gonna be a lot of fun!"

On select dates, the one-man band THAT 1 GUY (featuring Mike Silverman) will open the show.
